Going Back To Our Roots: Awesome Talaandig Soil Art Paintings

Going back to our roots and realizing that our ancestors probably have much more cooler lives than we do today is certainly an eye-opener for me. The Talaandig are Indigenous People from the Kitanglad Mountain Ranges of Bukidnon and they are one of the few communities who have preserved their customs and traditions. We Cebuanos are so lucky because they accepted our invitation of sharing their awesome way of life with us.

The Talaandig are highly-creative and resourceful, making great efforts in promoting a dying art internationally, soil art!

Instead of using the usual coloring materials for painting, they use what is readily available and abundant in their environment, soil! Just so you thought that paintings with soil as medium are monochromatic, think again! You will be surprised that our earth has rich colors of reds, browns, and grays!

Most of their paintings relay a message of their way of living, their beliefs, their practices, and their respect for nature.

From afar, I could tell that the artworks were awesome! Upon close inspection, they actually leave me breathless! Their paintings are intricate and very beautiful!

In partnership with the Halad Museum and in celebration of the National Indigenous Peoples MonthHuning Lumad was brought to Cebu and certainly was an event to remember!

  1. Kindly inform me for future performances of Talaandig soil paintings and music in Cebu so I can bring my students from the University of San Carlos College of Education. This is a rare opportunity. thank you for this blog.

    1. Good day Sister Geraldine!

Thank you so much for reading my blog. I am not sure if the Talaandig will be back in Cebu very soon because, to my amazement, they have fully-booked schedules here and abroad. Hehehehehe! It is amazing that they are very in demand abroad but it is also sad because they are not very popular here in the Philippines.

I have videos during the event but I have not uploaded them yet Sister Geraldine. I will inform you as soon as the videos are online and as soon as I have news that they will be coming here.

Once again Sister Geraldine, thank you very much and have a great day!
