PART 3

You saw in Part 1 of this blog on how the opening went, and it went very well! These artists really make me proud to be a Cebuano! Just look at those paintings! That night, my hands were very itchy and it kept on checking my pocket. Why? I wanted to take all these painting home and make my own home gallery!

Enough words! Now it's time to let your eyes feast on these masterpieces! Broaden your imagination and enjoy!

"My Yellow Submarine"
Jess Najarro

I am a big fan of The Beatles! This explains why I like this painting. It's so child-like and full of color! We all live in a Yellow Submarine indeed!

"Rambutan"
Felix Catarata

2012
Php 20,000
The painting is so real! It's actually mouth-watering! I am not a fan of Rambutans but they sure look good on this painting!

"Days of the New"
Ian Quiros

This is an everyday scene we can encounter in our streets and markets. It's a wonderful depiction of our modern lifestyle.

"One of those Dead Days"
Ian Quiros

I find this painting very interesting! An old man with very slim stature has a floating pink heart and blue circle on his palms. There's also a light bulb above his head? What do you think this painting means?

I love the colors in this painting! I also love the texture of the stones, because they really look like real ones! I would love to have this on my sala in the future!

One of my favorites in the gallery! I don't know who made this but somebody actually won this on the opening night! *tears*

Marvin "Chito" Natural
oil on canvas
Do you notice anything unusual from the old lady in the painting? If not, let me tell you. Her shadow is actually going the other way! Mr. Natural loves to paint walls because according to him, he can freely put any issues or topics that are relevant today. It was very nice to discover that Mr. Natural is actually not the shy type of artist. In fact, he is very talkative, and I love it! He kept on saying what was on his mind. He is so eager for the Toledo Museum to be formally opened next year. He said that Toledo was full of World War 2 relics, and I think that is very interesting. I never knew that Toledo was part of World War 2 until he told us that night! He gave us an idea that the museum will be an outdoor type because most displays can be found outside. Included in the displays are the humongous machines of Atlas Mining Company, machines as big as the Rizal Museum!

"Ang Makulay na Himagsikan at ang Masayahing Manghihimagsik"

Php 55,000

"Hope Amidst Conflict"
Darby Alcoseba
oil on canvas
2012
Php 120,000
THIS IS AN AWARD WINNING PAINTING!
I forgot to ask in what competition this painting won. I wonder not why this piece won. It contains relevant issues of our modern-day society.

"Self Portrait"
Felix Catarata
oil on canvass
2012
Php 60,000
After shaking Mr. Catarata's hand, I asked him if he painted this by looking at the mirror. He said that it was the technique of the old days. He actually asked his daughter to take a photo of him, and made a self-portrait after that. The detail of the painting is so cool! Take a look at the photo below.

I AM A SPECTATOR. I DON'T JUDGE. I PAINT.

"A Fine Day"
Felix Catarata

2012
Php 90,000

"Wet day, Cebu"
Melver Mercado
mixed media
2012
Php 8,000
Wet day, Cebu is made of pastel, acrylic, and opaque watercolor. Mr. Mercado spent 1 month planning for this piece and about 2 days in painting it. He actually photographed the place in a normal weather, not on a rainy day. Then he added the rainy mood by using  appropriate colors. The building on the painting is actually Crown Regency near Fuente Osmena.

"Veteran"
Melver Mercado
2012
A veteran who frequently stays near the Cathedral Church inspired Mr. Mercado to paint this. He asked the old man to pose for him, and he gave the old man Php 40 for doing so.

"Sandcastle"
Melver Mercado
watercolor on paper
2012
Php 2,000
This is my favorite among his works. This was inspired by his summer vacation in Bantayan Island. It was his imagination of a perfect moment. The diffused light in this painting is the sunlight of a 4:30 PM lovely afternoon. He painted this so that he could "capture the moment."

"Block Buster Movie"
Melver Mercado
mixed media
2012
Php 5,000
Why is this painting named Block Buster Movie? Care to have a guess? Nothing in mind? Well, Mr. Mercado named it as such because the little stall with yellow roof is actually a DVD/CD stall, selling block buster movies.
