There was a contest between the 2 tables of bloggers. Team Beef Caldereta won. We finished our puzzle way too slow. Hehehe!

After Team Beef Caldereta won, we finally finished our puzzle pieces!!! Hahahaha! Slowly but surely? Hehehe!!!

"Max's 4Sharing" is the newest addition to the already sumptuous menu of Max's Restaurant. The average number of Cebuano people who dine in Max's are in groups of 3 or 4. They noticed that loyal customers enjoy pairing Max's Fried Chicken with their classic dishes, so they thought of 2 new dishes to compliment their signature "Sarap To The Bones" Fried Chicken. Let us all welcome Max's Adobong Baka sa Gata and Max's Beef Caldereta

Max's Adobong Baka sa Gata is made from tender beef chunks, combined with sayote and green finger chili then bathed in luscious mildly-spiced coconut milk. Max's Beef Caldereta on the other hand is made from tender beef stew combined with tomatoes, carrots, red and green bell peppers, green peas then bathed in rich and thick tomato-based sauce! Whichever from the 2 you'll choose, they are all superb choices! My personal favorite is Max's Adobong Baka sa Gata. Yummy!

This is Rizal Museum, the venue of the Sinugdanan Art Exhibit. This is located in OsmeƱa Boulevard.

Since I did not get enough of my first night experience with Sinugdanan, I asked my friend Justine and my boyfriend to come and take a look at the paintings the very next day. They gladly affirmed to my invitation. I was also very excited to visit the gallery again.

Justine together with our beloved Lolo Serging!

We all had a great time! The great thing about our visit was Justine having a moment or two with the owner of the gallery, Mr. Jon Kenneth Gotiong, and Gallery Manager Miss April May Tudtud-Ramos. When Mr. Jon knew that Justine was an artist, he asked for her portfolio! Wohooo! It was so great to hear their conversation! I always knew Justine would become an artist making waves in the Philippines! Very soon!!!

Let's support our local artists!

They are so talented, but they lack our

support! They deserve the best!

Huning Lumad: A Talaandig Exhibit and a Series of Performance and Soil Painting Workshops!

Want to turn soil into art, play an ethnic instrument, and
experience indigenous Filipino culture?
Join our 2-day series of workshops!

October is National Indigenous Peoples Month. The Halad Museum is joining in the celebration by featuring the Talaandig Indigenous Community Artists to share with us their internationally recognized soil art!

As part of efforts to revive this dying art, it has been showcased abroad in countries like the US, South Korea and The Netherlands to rave reviews. Now, we’re bringing it to Cebu!

Talaandig artists use soil as the medium (yes, no need for paint!). Their artworks come in the colors of the earth — browns, reds and grays of the soil — soothing tones that express their tribe’s life, beliefs, practices and close affinity with the land.

The Talaandig are Indigenous People (IP) living in small communities in the Kitanglad Mountain Ranges in Bukidnon and nearby provinces of the Mindanao Region. With a population estimated at 100,000 only, the Talaandig people are one of the very few IP communities who have successfully preserved their age-old culture and heritage.

Discover a new creative outlet and explore a new culture! And with the Halad Museum committed to expose Cebuanos to more beautiful and rare artistic traditions from the different parts of the country, we’re making the workshop more affordable. We’re offering a specially discounted learning investment for students and teachers at P500 per person ONLY and for professionals at P650 with registration until Oct. 25, 2012. On-site registrations will be the still affordable regular rate of P600 for students/teachers and P800 for professionals.

And there’s more:  Learn to jam with ethnic instruments used in world music — from the traditional (tambul, katyapi, dayuday, kubing, etc.) to the experimental (tambuleleng, kokak, etc.) — for P200 per person only! Be an early bird and pay P150 before Oct. 25, 2012.

As an extra special treat, the Halad Museum is also hosting a free performance workshop for those interested to learn the song and dance traditions of the Talaandig. Join by simply paying the museum admission fee of P20 only.

PART 3

You saw in Part 1 of this blog on how the opening went, and it went very well! These artists really make me proud to be a Cebuano! Just look at those paintings! That night, my hands were very itchy and it kept on checking my pocket. Why? I wanted to take all these painting home and make my own home gallery!

Enough words! Now it's time to let your eyes feast on these masterpieces! Broaden your imagination and enjoy!

I love the colors in this painting! I also love the texture of the stones, because they really look like real ones! I would love to have this on my sala in the future!

One of my favorites in the gallery! I don't know who made this but somebody actually won this on the opening night! *tears*

Marvin "Chito" Natural
oil on canvas
Do you notice anything unusual from the old lady in the painting? If not, let me tell you. Her shadow is actually going the other way! Mr. Natural loves to paint walls because according to him, he can freely put any issues or topics that are relevant today. It was very nice to discover that Mr. Natural is actually not the shy type of artist. In fact, he is very talkative, and I love it! He kept on saying what was on his mind. He is so eager for the Toledo Museum to be formally opened next year. He said that Toledo was full of World War 2 relics, and I think that is very interesting. I never knew that Toledo was part of World War 2 until he told us that night! He gave us an idea that the museum will be an outdoor type because most displays can be found outside. Included in the displays are the humongous machines of Atlas Mining Company, machines as big as the Rizal Museum!

"Ang Makulay na Himagsikan at ang Masayahing Manghihimagsik"

"Pamilyang Nagmamahalan: Gabay ng Bayan tungo sa Maunlad na Kinabukasan"

2012
Php 55,000

"Hope Amidst Conflict"
Darby Alcoseba
oil on canvas
2012
Php 120,000
THIS IS AN AWARD WINNING PAINTING!
I forgot to ask in what competition this painting won. I wonder not why this piece won. It contains relevant issues of our modern-day society.

"Self Portrait"
Felix Catarata
oil on canvass
2012
Php 60,000
After shaking Mr. Catarata's hand, I asked him if he painted this by looking at the mirror. He said that it was the technique of the old days. He actually asked his daughter to take a photo of him, and made a self-portrait after that. The detail of the painting is so cool! Take a look at the photo below.

"A Fine Day"

"Wet day, Cebu"
Melver Mercado
mixed media
2012
Php 8,000
Wet day, Cebu is made of pastel, acrylic, and opaque watercolor. Mr. Mercado spent 1 month planning for this piece and about 2 days in painting it. He actually photographed the place in a normal weather, not on a rainy day. Then he added the rainy mood by using  appropriate colors. The building on the painting is actually Crown Regency near Fuente Osmena.

"Veteran"
Melver Mercado
2012
A veteran who frequently stays near the Cathedral Church inspired Mr. Mercado to paint this. He asked the old man to pose for him, and he gave the old man Php 40 for doing so.

"Sandcastle"
Melver Mercado
watercolor on paper
2012
Php 2,000
This is my favorite among his works. This was inspired by his summer vacation in Bantayan Island. It was his imagination of a perfect moment. The diffused light in this painting is the sunlight of a 4:30 PM lovely afternoon. He painted this so that he could "capture the moment."

"Block Buster Movie"
Melver Mercado
mixed media
2012
Php 5,000
Why is this painting named Block Buster Movie? Care to have a guess? Nothing in mind? Well, Mr. Mercado named it as such because the little stall with yellow roof is actually a DVD/CD stall, selling block buster movies.
